saturday heralds the year's first entanglement with the city - feat #7
we begin on the edges of the heathrow industrial complex; a warren of car parks, franchise hotels, and roundabouts, every inch of it resisting the pedestrian walker - to escape that abyss without jet fuel requires all the qualities of a good pedestrianist - an intrepid spirit, a capacity to find beauty anywhere, and appropriate footwear.
from heathrow on to that insatiably greedy hounslow, that straddles not one but three stations along the piccadilly. we'll visit all three and settle the age-old debate - which part of hounslow is best? next we head straight towards barnes, crossing that voluptuous river twice as she hugs those lucky richmondonians tighter with each passing day.
barnes, depending on the weather can appear as either oz or middle-earth, both famously worth the journey. for those who haven't been, it's a place largely forgotten by the rest of the city, wild and brimming with mystery. we'll stop for lunch at the white hart perched above a thames full of life, not yet wearing the corset of the city.
after lunch we skirt a still liberated thames, crossing her a third and final time by way of london's most demanding bridge - hammersmith, from there it's north through kensington and holland park - landing finally at the warrington hotel in maida vale, without doubt the grandest pub in the city, home to the most talent inclusive karaoke outside of shinjuku.
